Draft Guru Mel Kiper say the Patriots might go Running Back with their first pick

By: Greg

Being a podcast lover, I download and listen to ESPN's NFL Draft podcast with Mel Kiper and Todd McShay every week. On this weeks episode Mel was talking about what the Patriots will do with their first pick. Many other so called experts have the Patriots taking a OLB but Mel says look for the Patriots to draft a Running back with their first pick.

He says that Maroney is garbage and has not done anything, Faulk is old and so is Fred Taylor. He thinks that Donald Brown the RB out of UConn makes the most sense because of his versatility. Brown has visited with the Patriots and BB.

My take on this is maybe in the second round where the Patriots have three picks and can gamble on a Running Back but right now to take a running back with their first pick when they have glaring needs at OLB and CB would be stupid. Our backfield is full as it is with Maroney, Faulk, Morris and Taylor vying for carries.

Maybe if Donald Brown falls to the second round we can scoop him up but not before that. I watched Brown numerous times and the guy can flat out play. He has had a couple of 200 yard games and can catch the ball out of the backfield too.

Mel is the expert so maybe he knows something we do not know or maybe he is blowing smoke up our ass. We will see in a few weeks.
