Let’s Call It Pats Puppy Love for Jason Taylor
The Patriots seem to be employing junior high dating tactics in courting free agent Jason Taylor. Though we expected “playing hard to get” after reading this Boston Herald report we think Kraft is shoegazing. The ole’ “I think I’m going to ask her out? Do you think she’d go out with a guy like me?”
“I’m a great fan of his. He’s a special guy,” Kraft said of Taylor. “I think that’s true (it’s up to him, if he wants to become a Patriot).”
Taylor also seems cautiously smitten:
He said at his charity outing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “But it’s great to be wanted. It’s great to be wanted, sure. Especially an organization like (the Patriots) or the Dolphins.”
Take into account that he was quoted in Florida. In this example Taylor is the little hot blonde girl, the Patriots are us and Miami is the blonde’s ex-boyfriend. He gave the statement/gossip to Miami’s clique at school—Florida. We (the Patriots) are the cooler boy who believes in chivalry and paying for dinner but we can’t afford to take her (Taylor) any place that doesn’t have a dollar menu. Miami is the rich kid.
Perhaps in response to Kraft’s not-so-hidden message, Taylor also claimed he wasn’t looking to break the bank with this contract. “Everything is not about money, even in this day and age when everybody is looking for it,” Taylor said. “You want to be productive and be with the right team and help the situation. We’ll work it out and see where it is. You still get paid, but it’s not all about money.”
"Everything is not about money."! "You want to be with the right team."! I wasn’t the best at picking up prepubescent romantic cues, but I think Taylor’s best friend (agent Gary Wichard) might ask us to the Sadie Hawkins dance (2009 season). And there we’ll let him lead.
