Pats trade LeKevin Smith to McDaniels and the Broncs

By: Greg

ESPN is reporting that the Patriots have traded DE LeKevin Smith to the Broncos and old friend Josh McDaniels. There has been no report on what the Pats are getting back but at most it will be a low draft pick. LeKevin became expendable after the acquisition of Derrick Burgess. LeKevin was at best the 5th DE on the Pats depth chart but going to Denver and their lowly defense he could find him self competing for a starting position.

LeKevin played in 31 games during his three seasons with the Pats and had 14 total tackles last year.

Hopefully the Pats can get a 5th round pick back for LeKevin so that the Pats can then send that pick to the Raiders instead of a 4th round pick that they would have to send if they do not acquire a 5th round pick in this years draft. If they can get a 5th round pick for Smith, they would basically be trading a 3rd rd pick and LeKevin Smith (who would likely but cut anyway) for Derick Burgess. A bargain if you ask me.
