We all saw Wes Welker go down along with the Patriots Super Bowl dreams in the final regular season game just a few months ago. Welker tore his ACL and it looked BAD. Many thought and still believe that Welker will not be back until at least half way through the season. Well today was huge surprise and step for Welkers availability for the upcoming season.
Welker practiced at OTAs today running through agility bag drills and ran routes and caught passes at three quarter speed all while wearing a brace on his left knee.
“At one point while on the practice fields, he ran about 10 yards, stopped abruptly, and turned to catch a pass from Tom Brady.” Mike Reiss- ESPN.com
Riess also reported Randy Moss’ words on Welker:
“It’s very impressive to me. I’m a big fan of Welker’s, way before he came here, back when he was in Miami. So I can’t wait to have him back on the field, whenever that day comes. Sky is the limit, so we’ll see what happens.”
What a surprise. It looks like this guy has been working his ass off. Welker is such a key cog in this offense, if the Pats can get him back earlier than expected it would be a huge boost. At the same time I am hoping he does not rush back and do any more damage on the knee. That being said this is quite a good surprise for the Patriots chances this season.
